back in San Francisco I tried out for a street gang,
more New York than SF,
more The Real World the TV show,
part West Side Story, a gloss, a people,
spilling out of bars spilling out brick windows, brick & neon,
you've seen this comercial.
When all of a sudden it's gun time, I'm in the try outs,
I rethink it, the fun stops when the murder starts,
I drop it, turn and shoot water from my gun fingers,
a beautiful sailor man comes staggering up, it's Job from Arrested Development.
He says ouch you really hurt me you big pansy
then starts off dancing West Side Story.
He's dancing funny but I'm still all panic walking over to the Capp street house.
A young redhead is agressively panhandling me.
I give her six quarters, she says she takes checks,
she has a card table all set up with a cash box and a sign that says
"make checks payble to..." & a nice address in Santa Cruz.
Then of course I can't find the key or remember which door,
now the door is white plastic with port holes,
very George Lucas, very Swedish or you know,
and then I'm inside, it's still the crumbling paint and walls but with multiple staircases.
I finally pick one & it takes me to my parents bedroom in the house where I grew up.
I hear the clangling of my dog's collar coming up the stairs.
He came home, I hug him, but where did you go?
"Huntington Beach"
There's a narrator here, says Batman has been in Huntington Beach all week,
he's been the mascot of the restaurant workers,
he's been taking 15 baths a day.
But he doesn't like the water I say.
I was trying to rearrange the furniture for my mom, just shuffling around different shapes under white dust covers so it looked good, like rich people packing it up for the summer.
On re entry, the story was told backwards, it's back to 9/11, Ursen is a baby again, Lena painted a whole floor of the Capp Street house fleshy pink, meant as a shelter for Ursen & me, but the ceiling is so low and I'm worried about everything, earthquakes, too much Animal Planet/Discovery Chanel cataclysm.
