From the name you may think it is part of the rose plant but it does actually come from the Brazllian rainforest tree called Aniba or Rosewood, extracted out of the trunk after it is chopped down. To me it is a perfect smelling thing, I can see why it was harvested almost out of existence.

An article in the NYT explaining the sad situation for this wonderful tree, the even grimmer picture from one of a million activists, and a silver lining??This company, Simplers, doesn't sell rosewood oil or sandlewood either (also endangered).
