MY CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH A CARNY:

The circus is in town here in Colorado Springs.
I'm sure I'm not the only one secretly wanting
to be a fly on the wall of their train.
Well tonight, while stopping at 7-11 on the way
to my radio show, I got my own glimpse into the life.
The guy in back of me in line dropped an armful of
hungry man dinners and a loaf of wonder bread onto
the counter, otherwise they would have fallen on the ground.
We already had this thing where I could tell he was
about to head for the register so I casually hurried up to beat
him to it. That sounds worse than it really was. I beat
him fair and square. And then I saw the armload and
felt sort of bad. He thought I was grossed out by his
dinner. He said, Well that's how I eat. I'm under paid
and over worked. He had a circus logo shirt on but I
said "do you work for the circus"
"yeah"
he likes colorado. he is a props guy. he beat all his
friends to the register. they looked road weary but
otherwise not circusy. except for a seven foot guy.
no pictures. not in 7-11.
