When I was about 19 or 20 and living in the bay area, not thriving there, I drove to the ocean to clear my head but it didn't work. I had a forest green bug that i drove around until I came to a sign for a skating rink. It was so crappy and charming. I was very surprised to find a rink there because the building looked like a machine shop but turned out to be a small square rink with slow ice and ancient cheerful paintings of fozen ponds and ice mermaids skating, like a geode, way out at 48th Ave and Kirkham. I grew up skating. It was so fun that day on bad rental skates little girls saying where did you come from and leaving tired. I was trying to find the rink, it closed down shortly after I was there. I found these pictures on a photographers site. Here's a link.
